Hoffenheim proved scary for Manchester City, but David Silva saves the day

TSG Hoffenheim young dynamic manager Julian Nagelsmann said in his pre-match press conference, “Man City expects to win the game, but we’ve come up with a very brave plan. He kept it a secret to himself but it was revealed within first 60 seconds in the game as Hoffenheim took the lead. Manchester City were left stunned and before they could have understood something they were 1-0 down. Sergio Aguero did come to rescue with his brilliant goal, but Hoffenheim have already proved scary for Manchester City. They must thank David Silva for saving the day in closing minutes when Hoffenheim defenders lost concentration.

Ishak Belfodil brought a nightmare evening for Manchester City at Rhein-Neckar-Arena as he made a brilliant run on slick pass from midfield and give it a great finishing touch. Before Manchester City would have found rhythm in the game they were already 1-0.

It was good enough to scare the visitors knowing they have already lost their opening fixture against Lyon. But that scare didn’t survive long as Pep Guardiola side found themselves level on points table with first seven minutes. Sergio Aguero pocked home from Leroy Sane’s cut-back getting behind the Hoffenheim’s defence.

Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann enjoyed a great evening as well making some fantastic saves from Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling. He never felt like a goalkeeper on the pitch. He was often caught as a holding midfield player with his passing from the edge of the box.

Baumann almost sets up second-half substitution Andrej Kramaric with his vision perfectly hoofing the ball for him, but Croatian striker failed to capitalize. However, he was also the culprit of bringing down Leroy Sane inside the box and he was lucky not to be penalized. Manchester City were clearly denied there a goal scoring opportunity. A VAR assistant must have offered penalty to the Citizens.

Overall, Hoffenheim did prove to be a danger for Manchester City with their limited capacity. Manchester City were only lucky to grab all three points and they must thank the fighting spirit of David Silva in 87th minute of the match.

The 32-year-old star didn’t show any reluctance to go inside the box in those closing minutes and he was awarded for his fighting spirit. He robbed Posch who was too relax with his approach on the ball and finds the net between the legs of Baumann to earn victory for Manchester City.

Julian Nagelsmann wasn’t happy with the result but he took positives from the game. He said, “Despite absences, we did well. Manchester City reacted how we expect them to in the build-up play. Tactically, I saw a very good performance from my team who created chances against a World-class team.”
