No one would have thought that AS Roma will make it possible against the mighty Barcelona, but they did. Giallorossi were 4-1 down after the first-leg played at Camp Nou, they needed to score three against the La Liga’s second-best defense and not to forget they had a massive task to contain Messi & Co. it wasn’t possible without a miracle and what Roma did was nothing less than a miracle.

Giallorossi believing in miracle after the 4-1 debacle

Roma win 3-0 at Stadio Olimpico with the help of goals from Edin Dzeko, Daniel De Rossi, and Kostas Manolas. It earned them 4-4 draw on aggregate and they dragged themselves into Champions League semifinal on away goal advantage.

It was a poor performance from the Blaugrana. They were beaten in their own game. After a long-time, we witnessed a game in which Barcelona had lesser ball possession than their rival. Messi had free-kick chances from dangerous positions in first-half but he failed to make the most of it. Suarez hardly had his chances in the match.

Roma were on the front foot from the very first minute. Dzeko earned Giallorossi lead in the 6th minute and from there they never looked back. Barcelona has always struggled to defend against a physical striker and Dzeko perfectly fits into it. He was earning the long ball in the air and causing all the problems in Barcelona defensive half.

Gerard Pique struggled to contain the physicality of Dzeko and brought him down in the box. The resultant penalty was brilliantly converted by club captain Rossi and Barcelona advantage cut back to 3-4. Roma were only one goal away from semis and to write the script it arrived just after Andres Iniesta left the field for Barcelona.

Greek defender Kostas Manolas headed in the 82nd minute to end the debate over impossible task by making it possible. It proved it’s not only Barcelona who can do miracles in Uefa Champions League, Roma can also manage that in style. The second year in a row, Barcelona is eliminated by an Italian side at the quarterfinals stage of the tournament. Last year Juventus eliminated them with their 3-0 aggregate victory, and this season Roma outsmart them on away goal after ending up 4-4 aggregate in the end.
