Hazard saves the day for Chelsea with his late header

It was an entertaining night at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night. Italian side AS Roma paid a visit to Premier League champion Chelsea to continue their Uefa Champions League campaign. Chelsea were sitting at top with 6 points from their last two victories and they only needed a victory to qualify to the round of 16. It happens to come true till first half when Blues were leading 2-1, thanks to goals from David Luiz and Eden Hazard, but second-half double from Manchester City man Edin Dzeko gave 3-2 lead to the Roma. It takes Hazard heroics to continue Blues unbeaten run as he become Chelsea savior to earn a 3-3 draw.

Chelsea couldn’t afford to lose in front of their home fans in Champions League, because teams rely on their home matches to grab points in European competition. They have already lost against Manchester City and Crystal Palace in Premier League and Roma victory would have only put more pressure on manager Antonio Conte. And here the visitors arrive with determination to outplay the hosts.

David Luiz – naturally a defender was playing in midfield and he gave the lead to Chelsea with a wonderful goal and Eden Hazard double the lead in 37th minute. It was a win-win situation for the Blues, but they lost their concentration five minutes to the end of first-half.

Aleksandar Kolarov scored the much needed goal for Roma in 40th minute to cut the gap to 2-1. It changed everything for the visitors as they go on the scoresheet twice in quick succession in the second-half. Dzeko put in a voluptuous volley in 64th minute to level the score, and goes on finding the winner for Roma in 70th minute heading Kolarov cross.

But, there was a twist in the tail. Hazard’s 75th minute header from Pedro cross came as rescue for Chelsea to keep their unbeaten start going in the Uefa Champions League. The Belgian winger once again becomes Chelsea savior earning a 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge.

In another match of the night, Atletico Madrid continues to mourn their poor run of the campaign drawing against the Azerbaijan side Qarabag FK. It’s Atletico second 0-0 draw of the season as they played 0-0 against Roma as well on matchday 1.

It left Atletico with only two points from three matches in group C, due to their home defeat against Chelsea. They are on verge of early elimination if they don’t play better football in remaining matches, whereas Chelsea and Roma looking to edge past in round 16.

Hazard & Co still need to play Atletico Madrid at home. They must not repeat the mistakes they made against Roma, otherwise Spanish giant won’t allow that much of goal to be scored against their experienced back four.
