Cristiano Ronaldo deservedly won Uefa Best Player of 2016 Award

Cristiano Ronaldo had an amazing season of 2015/16, and especially the past six months for both Portugal and Real Madrid. The Real Madrid man won 11th Champions League trophy for Los Blancos with his winning penalty, and carried Portugal all the way to Euro 2016 trophy. It was magnificent, although he missed Euro 2016 final, and stayed on the pitch for only twenty minutes, but the way he carried Portugal and Real Madrid to win trophies this year is unbelievable. He was way ahead from the other two finalists, because Barca duo Messi and Suarez were missing from the final three.

Ronaldo had a sensational year, scoring 51 goals in 48 matches for Madrid, and leading Portugal to its first-ever international trophy, scoring three goals on the way to winning the EURO 2016 Championship. To win Europe’s best award Champions League trophy alone was enough, but god gave him the fortunes to win double, glory with the club and country both, and then you cannot take away any individuals awards going to be announced this year.

The other two finalists were Antoine Griezmann and Gareth Bale, who had a splendid season as well or to say they had a better summer in France playing for their own country respectively France and Wales. They had even better display of football than the Portuguese star Ronaldo, but the trophies speaks more than individual performances.

Griezmann came close second on both occasion were Ronaldo celebrated glory. Griezmann can only watch him from very close taking everything away from him, whether it’s Champions League trophy, Euro 2016 trophy or now Uefa Player of the Year trophy. He scored 39 goals for club and country, and he really and truly believed he deserved to win this year. Unfortunately he came up against one of world soccer’s biggest names, who just happened to come off a career year, pouring in goals and winning two of the most prestigious trophies there are.

Gareth Bale had a mixed season, netting 19 times for Real Madrid and assisting eleven as well, but his real performances which counted to put his name in top three is his performance for Wales in Euro 2016, and Euro 2016 qualifying rounds. Bale led from front to put Wales into Euro semifinal for the very first time, and it’s an achievement for Wales which may take years to do it second time. Well, Suarez deserved the Bale spot in top three, but Euro 2016 performance seems to be more relevant in ranking and Bale earn his spot.

Ronaldo first won the UEFA Best Player Award in 2014, and in his acceptance speech for Thursday’s award, the 31-year-old Portuguese put in his praise for the other two finalists as well : “Of course, I feel happy because it was an unbelievable season. But it wouldn’t be fair if I didn’t mention these two amazing players. Griezmann, I am sorry for your loss to Portugal in the final, but you are an amazing player. It was an unbelievable season.”

Now, Ronaldo equals Messi in the no. of “Uefa Player of the Year” awards as both have won it two times. He may equal Messi’s five time Ballon d’or as well in future, because his fourth is in line in January 2017, and good thing is he is not competing with Messi. Messi is out of race from Ballon d’or and the same two duo of Uefa Player of the Year will be competing with him, which Ronaldo is much likely to win the battle.
