Arsenal 4-1 finally tops group,Uefa Champions league, Lucas Perez hat-trick

The newly arrived Spaniard at Arsenal from Deportivo La Coruna scored his first Uefa Champions League hat-trick to give Gunners much needed 4-1 victory over FC Basel. Arsenal needed a victory playing away at Basel to top the group A, and they did it in an emphatic fashion. And, PSG taken care of their other worrying factor playing a 2-2 draw against Ludogorets at home.

It’s Arsenal record straight 17th appearance in Uefa Champions League, but they have failed to go beyond top 16 in last six appearances, and in last five they never finished top in their group. After five uncomfortable years, Gunners have reached the top 16 stage, finishing at top of the group. But, real problem this time is there are title challengers who have also finished second in their group, so it’s not going to be easy despite finishing first in their group. There is no easy ride in champions league, but atleast you try to avoid big teams like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona in early stages.

Arsene Wenger player a different playing XI, who registered victory over Westham United on weekend. On weekend, it was Alexis Sanchez who got a hat-trick in Premier League, but it’s Lucas Perez who scored the hat-trick on a bigger stage in his only second appearance in Champions league. Kieran Gibbs, Rob Holding, and Gabriel also started for the Gunners alongside Perez.

It’s a great boost for the Gunners as they finished undefeated, because the last time they finished the group undefeated they reach to the final stage. But their victory has come against the Ludogorets and FC Basel, thhey failed to outplay PSG on both occasions and played a minimal draw on both occasions. In the Premier League, they also have failed to get past title rival opponents, although they did defeat Chelsea before the Blues improved their game. It’s a concern, will Arsenal be able to compete domestically and in Europe at the same time with their squad, but with Perez hat-trick, it seems Arsenal has the answer.

Perez Shuts the mouth of his critics and made competition tough in Arsenal lineup, as Spaniard writes another chapter in his career. He may not be getting many chances in Gunners forward lineup, but he is ready to perform week in week out. Arsenal forward line is very much occupied by Alexis Sanchez, Alex Iwobi, and Theo Walcott this season, and if there is a need of substitution Olivier Giroud is their man. So, if someone gets the opportunity, he needs to grab it with both hands, and Perez just did that.
