Paco Alcacer may find his lost glory at Borussia Dortmund
Paco Alcacer was a big name at Valencia. He was the club captain, but his move to Barcelona two years ago didn’t live up to the expectation. He almost became non-existent to the world. Thanks to Borussia Dortmund interest in him, he may find his lost glory back.
Dortmund has signed Paco Alcacer on loan from Barcelona for 2018/19 season. The German club has also secured a purchase option that will allow Alcacer to be tied to the club for another four years.
BVB Sports Director Michael Zorc told to their official website, “We are very happy that Paco Alcacer has decided in the favour of Borussia Dortmund. We firmly believe that this type of player fits well with our way of playing. Paco has its quality at an early age proved at Valencia. He scored many goals and as a just 22-year-old experienced special appreciation by having him transferred to the captaincy. In Barcelona, he worked daily with some of the best players in the world. It is due to the extreme competition in the club’s offensive that he has now decided to take a fresh start after two years.
Alcacer is also very happy to be at least playing regular football. He was missing game-time during his stay at Barcelona. He said, “I am really looking forward to playing in the Bundesliga soon. This is one of the best leagues in the world, and BVB with these incredible fans and the famous South Stand probably has something magical for every footballer.”

Alcacer and Dortmund, both needed each other. Alcacer needed game time where he can play regular football and Dortmund needed a centre-forward. They were out of striker in their team after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang transfer to Arsenal. Chelsea loanee Michy Batshuayi also said goodbye to the club after his loan-term ended and now he’s on a loan move to Valencia.
Dortmund needed a striker to complete their squad. In their opening matches in Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal, it was clear evident how badly The Black & Yellows are missing a centre-forward. They were playing captain Marco Reus as centre-forward, which is not his natural position.
Dortmund were creating many chances to score goals but lack of a true goal scorer was hindering their path to glory. Thankfully, Paco Alcacer arrival will solve their problem.
