Hertha Berlin handed Bayern Munich their first defeat of the season

Hertha Berlin development from last season is remarkable.  Last season they played draw in their both fixtures against Bayern Munich and this season they started with a victory. They handed Bayern Munich their first defeat of the season to put themselves on level with them on the Bundesliga points table.

Hosts were the dominating team at Olympiastadion despite having the lesser share of the ball. Vedad Ibisevic and Duda earned a comfortable victory for Hertha against the league leader and last six seasons consecutive Bundesliga winner.

Both sides have had their chances but Hertha made the most of their opportunities. Robert Lewandowski wasted a golden opportunity to put Bayern ahead with his headed effort before Manuel Neuer pulled a brilliant save to deny Ibisevic’s header. However, the feeling didn’t stay longer as Jerome Boateng fouled on Salomon Kalou inside the penalty area and Ibisevic beats Neuer from the penalty spot.

Arjen Robben missed a close range finish before Duda releases a quick counter-attack for Herth Berlin just before the half-time. Ondrej Duda put Berlin in a comfortable place with his finish in 44th minute.

The second-half was a torture for Hertha Berlin defense as they suffered more than 20 shots, but they kept their cool to deny any opportunity to Bayern Munich. Lewandowski, James Rodriguez, Thiago Alacantara, Serge Gnabry, Thomas Muller, and Sandro Wagner, all left frustrated as Hertha Berlin registered a comfortable victory.

Hertha Berlin was finished undefeated last season against the Bavarian giants. They pulled a 2-2 draw at Olympiastadion and played a 0-0 draw at Allianz Arena in Bayern Munich’s den. It’s a very big improvement for Hertha as they defeated Bayern Munich for the first time in their last 15 attempts.

It’s also first defeat of Bayern Munich’s new coach Niko Kovac at Bayern’s helm. Bayern have lost points in their second successive match as they also played draw against Augsburg in midweek fixture. Borussia Dortmund is in very good position to put themselves on the top of the table if they manage a victory against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.
