Borussia Dortmund boss Peter Bosz needed a victory in Ruhr derby to stabilize all the speculations of his sacking after Dortmund got eliminated from Uefa Champions League at group stage. Ruhr derby against Schalke was his lifeline, but once again the Yellow and Black squad disappointed their manager playing a draw after taking 4-0 lead in first-half.
Bosz feels the heat after Ruhr derby draw, but he is not ready to give up. He said in his post match comment as Goal reports, “We will have to work hard, I did that all my life. That’s the kind of player I was, I never gave up, and as a coach I will not give up either.”
“I’ll cheer up the players, nobody needs to cheer me up, I’ll do that myself. I did that all my life and I’ll do the same now. It was a crazy game. If you were there, you can’t believe it, that is, I can’t believe it.”
“We started well and if you are leading 4-0 at half-time you can never draw 4-4. I believe that happened because in the second-half we didn’t play clear football. The first-half we tried to play football, we did it very well. We didn’t take advantage and when you look at the way we conceded the goals, that just can’t happen on our level. Unfortunately it did happen.”
Dortmund were leading 4-0 in first-half, thanks to goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mario Gotze, Raphael Guerreiro and an owl goal from Benjamin Stambouli. Dortmund were 4-0 up in first 25 minutes. It was the kind of start a manager needs to make a comeback, but Dortmund loses the ground in second-half. It was a disastrous performance in second-half after putting a splendid display in first-half.
Schalke came strong in second-half scoring twice within four minutes of time after game hit hour mark. Guido Burgstaller and Amine Harit brought life for Schalke fans at Signal Iduna Park from their 61st and 65th minute effort respectively.
Gabon striker Aubameyang’s double offence forced him to leave the pitch. Dortmund failed to sustain their lead with a man down in last quarter of the match. Daniel Caliguiri find another goal in 86th minute for Schalke, whereas Naldo finds the header in stoppage time to end Ruhr derby in a remarkable fashion earning a 4-4 draw for Schalke.
