Bayern Munich strengthened their position at top with 13 points lead against their closest rival RB Leipzig. Thomas Muller scored the only goal for Bavarians against Borussia Monchengladbach to hand his team a victory despite a lackluster performance. It takes Bayern closer to their fifth consecutive Bundesliga title, and their jouney has become more comfortable with debutant title challengers RB Leipzig 3-0 loss against Werder Breemen.

Arjen Robben and Robert Lewandowski both missed the opportunity in first half to give Bayern Munich lead, but Muller struck his second Bundsliga goal of the season at the right time. In 25 round of matches, German international forward only grabbed his second of the season, but it came at a crucial juncture, when lethal Polish striker Robert Lewandowski failed with his attempts. Lewandowski missed the header from Muller cross to deny himself to skip past Borussia Dortmund’s Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s 23-goal mark.

Netherlands veteran winger Arjen Robben also hit the bar, and Borussia Park was relieved until 63rd minute, but then Muller came up with a killer blow for them. Muller drove in from Thiago Alcantara’s chip from midway to earn Bayern a close victory.

Monchengladbach could have easily gone on the scoresheet if Javier Martinez wouldn’t have made the timely block on Josip Drmic shot, and denied Thorgan Hazard’s shot. Although, Hazard’s shot wasn’t blocked comfortably and it could have gone into Martinez own net, but Bayern were lucky to escape the danger.

In Sunday’s other match, Schalke beats Mainz 1-0, whereas Borussia Dortmund secured a close victory against Ingolstadt on Friday night to close the gap with second placed RB Leipzig. Fourth placed Hoffenheim also registered a 1-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen, whereas fifth placed Hertha BSC loses heavily 4-2 against FC Koln. Eintracht played 0-0 draw against 16th placed Hamburger, whereas 8th placed Freiburg played another 1-1 draw against Augsburg. Wolfsburg improved their position registering their second consecutive victory playing against Darmstadt.
